What a check-in sounds like

real check-in rushed entries · size escalation

The leak on your loss day wasn't impatience in the abstract — it was size. Your two biggest positions produced two of your three worst trades, and the biggest came minutes after a loss. That's not reassessment, it's escalation: adding risk to close a gap, not because the market gave you a reason.

Before any add beyond your probe, answer one question: "Is the market confirming my probe, or am I adding because I want the money back?" An honest "I want the money back" means no add.

Score the session by ratio, not P&L: confirmation-driven adds divided by total adds. A red day where every add was confirmation-driven beats a green day with one revenge add.

An actual reply from this coach, verbatim. One behavior. One gate. One metric.

What happens in a check-in

  1. 01

    You say what actually happened

The trade situation, and what you felt before, during, or after — even if you're only considering an action. No trade log required, no forms to decode. Just the truth.

  2. 02

It connects the behavior to the emotion driving it

Emotional pain in trading comes from the gap between what you needed to happen and what the market did. The coach names that gap, then checks it against your history: is this your recurring pattern, or a one-off?

  3. 03

You leave with one thing to practice

Deliberate measure: one specific behavior at the edge of your current discipline — measured by whether you followed your rule, not by whether the trade won. Losses are statistically meaningless on any single trade; your process is not.

Find your vital few

Most traders don't have fifty problems. They have one or two. The coach keeps a running tally of every behavioral deviation you log — moved stop-losses, revenge entries, winners cut early from fear — and treats whatever recurs most as the thing to fix first. That's the 80/20 rule applied to you, not to trading in general. It never invents your patterns from a textbook; it builds them from your own check-ins.
